The Constitution

Poppit Surf Lifesaving has a 3 page Constitution, below is a summary of Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving Club Constitution:

The title of the Club shall be known as Poppit Sands Surf Lifesaving and will be affiliated to the Surf Lifesaving Association of Great Britain.

The object of the Club is to help to prevent and reduce the loss of life by drowning on Poppit Sands. Also promote the methods of Surf Lifesaving for the resuscitation of the rescued, and also the application of First Aid.

The emblem of the Club shall incorporate a Salmon.

Colours of the Club will be Red and Navy.

Sans Peur (Without Fear) will be the motto of Poppit Surf Lifesaving Club.

The Annual General Meeting will be held during the Easter Holiday’s of each year. Every meeting shall be called upon by the Committee. The Club Secretary shall give at least 21 days notice of the AGM to all the members in the Club. Each member of the Club will be entitled to attend, and will be able to vote at the meeting. Any members of the public that want to come along to a meeting will be entitled to attend, but will not be aloud to vote. During each AGM the people who are present at the meeting will appoint a new Chairman each time. The Chairman will be at each AGM, if for any reason they are not present, then the people present will appoint a Chairman for the meeting.

 

The Committee shall present to each AGM the report and accounts of the Club for the whole year.

 Nominations for the election to the Committee must be made by the members of the Club in written form, and must be given to the Club Secretary before the AGM meeting.

 The Committee may call a special general meeting at any time. If at least 10 members request a meeting in writing, then the Secretary shall consider calling a meeting, the written request must state the business that wishes to be discussed in the meeting. At least 21 days notice must be given.

 The Club’s Committee will hold at least two ordinary meetings each year. Every matter shall be determined by a large number of votes of the members of the Committee that are present, but in case of an equal number of votes the Chairman of the meeting will have a second or casting vote. In each meeting the Committee shall keep minutes, in books that are kept of that particular purpose, the minutes would be of the proceedings at each meeting.

 From time to time the Committee may alter or make new rules for any particular reason, but no rules may be made which is inconsistent with the Club’s Constitution. The Committee may appoint one or more Sub-Committees consisting of three or more members of the Committee for the purpose of making any kind of enquiry.

No amendment may be made to the name of the Club, the object of the Club, the dissolution clause, or the alternation of the constitution. The Committee should be promptly send a copy of any amendment made to the Commissioners.

The membership of the Club shall be open to any person that is interested in furthering the object of the Club, and who has paid the annual subscription laid down by the Committee.

 

Active Members of the Club must attend patrols as specified by the Club Captain, and maintain fitness in order to be at peak performance during rescue situations. Each season an active member must prove to the Captain the they are confident with the signals and equipment for a ‘’crash’’ rescue.

 
An associate member shall not have an active interest in the Surf Club, or be aloud to use equipment without permission of the Captain or their deputy. They are entitled to all other club privileges. 

The Committee may by unanimous vote and for good reason terminate the membership of any individual. Provided that the individual concerned shall have the right to be heard by the Committee, accompanied by a friend, before a final decision is made.

If the Club Committee decide that it is necessary or advisable to dissolve the Club, it shall call a meeting of all the members, no less than 21 days notice shall be given. If a proposal is confirmed by two thirds majority of those present, the Committee shall have the power to realise any assets held by or on behalf of the Club. A copy of the final account and statement, for the final accounting period of the Club must be sent to the Commissioners.
